Pet Photos in My Gallery

Here is another short and sweet post. I just wanted to share with you who the pets are in my photos, as only one of them is actually mine.

So, I will start off with the Red Maine Coon, as that is my pet. His name is Marvin, I actually got his name from a movie that I loved as a child, “Flipper”, there was a little boy in that movie named Marvin and I always liked the name. I am one of those that prefers human names to non-human names for pets, but that’s just personal preference. Anyway, I always wanted a ginger kitty for some reason, don't ask me why, hahaha! I researched Maine Coons for a while and loved their personality and behavior traits, I do agree that they are gentle giants. Although he is a ginger kitty, he comes with a lot of energy, spunkiness and sass, as ginger kitties do, haha, so, although a gentle giant he can be a bit crazy at times, he is my wild fur child. He is everything you want in a cat though, he is very loving and always wants to be with you, he wants constant attention and if you don’t give it to him “right now”, boy will he let you know, haha, he loves his treats and playtime too. A Maine Coon’s demeanor is comparable to a dog and I agree with that, as I did have an average Tabby Cat growing up and the love and affection that I receive from Marvin is so much more than my other cat, even though I loved my Tabby Cat dearly. Marvin is also very vocal, he does meow occasionally, but his vocals mostly consist of trills, it’s kind of hard to explain, it’s like a soft, yet high-pitched purr or like if you're rolling "rrr’s" with your tongue. He is a whopping 26 pounds and is still growing as he is only 1 year and 5 months old, he can continue to grow up to 5 years old, some (not all) Maine Coons can get up to 30 pounds, some I have seen slightly over 30. So, that’s a little bit about Marv.

Next I will talk about the cute Golden Retriever. He is actually my brother and my to-be sister-in-law 's pup. His name is Kado, I believe they named him after Mankato, Minnesota, where they spent the first few years of their relationship and went to college, his name is truly spelled “Kado”, just wanted to clarify that it is NOT a spelling error. I like to call him my fur nephew. He too is a wild fur child like Marvin. He loves to play and has a sassy demeanor, but at the same time loves his family and is always excited when he comes to visit us. From my memory his favorite things are sticks (sometimes branches), bubbles and peanut butter, oh and I cannot forget that he loves to play with his monster truck when he comes to see us. We got him a remote control Megalodon monster truck and he likes to bark, growl and chase after it, hahaha! Although, the pictures you see of him currently in my gallery, he is just a puppy, he has gotten much larger, hopefully one of these times they visit I will be able to take a recent picture of him and share it in my gallery. He also shares the same birth month as Marvin “June” and they are actually only 2 weeks apart in age, which is very cool. So, that is a bit about the fur nephew, Kado boy.

The third one I want to talk about is the Black Cat (AKA Skittles). He was actually a cat that liked to wander the neighborhood. He was never our cat, but seemed to take a liking to our home (outdoors only), guess you could say the cat distribution system, but not really, as we don’t think he was a feral cat but someone’s pet in the area that they just let wander, as he was a very loving cat, would rub your legs, purr, and roll around at your feet. One day he just started sticking around our house, instead of his usual route around the neighborhood and then going back to his home. We did have some people move out in the neighborhood around that time and we think they left him behind, which is really sad. We went to the vet to see if he was microchipped so we could possibly return him to his owner, but there wasn’t one, we called around the area, different vets and animal shelters in case someone in the area was looking for him, another dead end. Unfortunately at the time we could not keep him, but we fed him and gave him water and tried to make him comfortable as possible, but as the months got colder, we tried to find an animal shelter to bring him too, so he could find a good home. This did also happen over the COVID 19 pandemic and all the shelters were full in our area and were not taking in any more animals or you had to be put on a waiting list. We were prepared to have to take him in ourselves, as we did not want him to be out in the harsh conditions of our Minnesota winter. Alas, I called a shelter about 45 minutes away from where I lived just for kicks to see if they could take him. I had been to this shelter before and they seemed like a nice place to take him. They did have openings to take in cats, so I took him there the next day. It was a sad day taking him there, but I knew that it would be the best thing for him, as we really could not take him in at the time as our own. He was literally quarantined for the time period he had to be and then adopted the very day he was able to be placed for adoption, which made me so happy. I loved that I got to spend the time with him that I did and it was fun for me to take the pictures of him that I did, as he was very photogenic.

That’s all for the pets, I hope you enjoy their pictures and story. I am sure you will see more pictures of Marvin and Kado in my gallery in the future.

Cheers!

Vanessa
